Surface preparation

Abrasive blasting and surface preparation

A coating system only performs as well as the surface under it. Top Coat provides abrasive blasting and surface preparation for structural steel, metalwork, masonry and concrete, so the specified coating bonds the way the manufacturer designed it to.

Top Coat LLC holds a Tennessee contractor license for BC-23 Sandblasting alongside BC-11 Painting and BC-14 Special Coatings and Waterproofing, so preparation and coating can be handled under one contract.

What we prepare

  • Structural steel, columns, beams and handrails
  • Steel doors, frames, stairs and exterior metalwork
  • Masonry and concrete walls ahead of sealers and elastomeric coatings
  • Concrete floors ahead of epoxy and urethane systems
  • Removal of failed coatings, rust and mill scale

Prepared to the specification

We prepare surfaces to the standard named in your specification, such as the SSPC/AMPP surface preparation standards (for example SP 6 commercial blast or SP 10 near-white blast) and the profile the coating manufacturer requires. Surface profile and cleanliness are checked and documented before the first coat goes on.

Controlled work in occupied facilities

  • Containment and dust control planned with the owner or GC
  • Work phased around operating areas and schedules
  • Debris collected and disposed of according to project requirements

One contractor for prep and coating

Because Top Coat is licensed for blasting, special coatings and painting, owners and GCs get one point of contact from surface preparation through final coat and closeout.
